FOR THE ATTENTION OF HUMANITARIAN AID RECIPIENTS: How to check the quality of products and how to store them properly?

There are frequent questions coming on the hotline of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center about the right ways of storing the food from humanitarian packages. That's why the experts from purchasing department have made a memo to humanitarian aid recipients, which will help them to make sure in the quality of received products and understand how to store them. 

Below is the list of all products provided in adult or children survival kits.

Sugar

On the backside of the package.

The package is clean and not damaged. The colour of sugar is white with a yellowish tint, the taste is sweet, there are no foreign tastes and odours neither in dry form nor in aqueous solution, no insoluble precipitates, mechanical and other foreign admixtures.

Stored at a temperature not exceeding + 40° C and relative humidity not higher than 70%.  In dry, well-ventilated area, not infected by stored-grain pests.

Sunflower oil

On the package.

The package is hermetically sealed, the oil is clear, no sediment, no smell.

Store it in locked up and dark rooms at a temperature from + 8° C to + 20° C.

Pate

On the package.

The cans are not blown, they are hermetically sealed, no runs. The cans with a slight touch of rust on the surface or slightly deformed (crumpled) are acceptable. The content has no foreign flavour and smell.

Store at a temperature from 0 to + 20° C and a relative humidity less than 75%. The period of storage after opening the sealed packaging of a can is no longer than 72 hours at a temperature from 0 to + 8° C.

Gingerbreads

On the backside of the package.

The package is clean and not damaged. The gingerbreads are regular-shaped and convex. The surface is not burnt, no bulging or hollows. The taste and smell are peculiar to gingerbreads, no foreign flavour or smell.

Store at a temperature of 18° C (± 5° C) and a relative humidity less than 75%.  Gingerbreads should not be exposed to sunlight and atmospheric condensations. It is forbidden to store gingerbreads next to odorous products.

Baby formula

On the package.

Hermetically sealed package without damages. The content is clean, peculiar to milk formula, without foreign odours and flavours.

Store at a temperature from 0 to + 20° C and a relative humidity less than 75%. After opening the package dry formula shall be stored tightly sealed, in a cool dry place no longer than two weeks.

Wheat groats

On the backside of the package.

The package is clean and not damaged. The colour and smell are typical for this type of cereal, no foreign smells, not fusty, not musty. The taste is peculiar to this cereal, no foreign flavour, not sour, not bitter.

Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, store it in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area, free from foreign odours, not infected by stored-grain pests, apart from products with a persistent odour.
Optimal storage conditions: at a temperature not exceeding 10° C and relative humidity up to 70%.

Peeled barley

The package is clean and not damaged. The colour and smell are typical for this type of cereal, no foreign smells, not fusty, not musty. The taste is peculiar to this cereal, no foreign flavour, not sour, not bitter.

Pearl barley

Pasta products

On the backside of the package.

The package is clean and not damaged. The pasta is sole-coloured with cream tint or yellow shade corresponding to the grade of flour. No foreign flavour and smell.

Store pasta products it in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area, not infected by stored-grain pests and protected from atmospheric condensations, with relative humidity not exceeding 70% and temperature less than 30° C. Keep them away from direct sunlight. It is forbidden to store pasta products in the same premises with odorous products.

Flour

On the backside of the package.

The package is clean and not damaged. The colour of flour is white (with yellow note). The smell is typical for flour, no foreign smells, not fusty, not musty. The taste is peculiar to wheat flour, no foreign flavour, not sour, not bitter.

Peas

Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, store it in a dry, clean, well ventilated, odour-free area, not infected by stored-grain pests at a temperature not higher than + 20° C and a relative humidity less than 75%.

Corn flakes

On the backside of the package.

The package is clean and not damaged. The flakes are thin, toasted, of various shapes, their surface has small bubbles, glazed (for glazed ones). Must not have foreign smell or flavour.

Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, store it in a dry, clean, well ventilated, odour-free area, non-infected by grain pests at a temperature not higher than + 20° C and a relative humidity less than 75%.

Semolina

On the backside of the package.
