“Children of the Donbas need support”: Croatian ambassador about the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s help to children in the “grey zone”

15.08.2019

“For every person who saw war, it will never end. People from the warzone will bear war with them, even when the fighting ceases completely. It’s for the entire life. It’s the legacy of armed conflicts. These are the consequences which cannot be eliminated but which can be made easier to bear, and I am happy that the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helps children of the Donbas victimized by armed conflict feel happy again.”

It was the statement which the Croatian Ambassador to Ukraine Anica Djamić made after the meeting with wounded children from Eastern Ukraine organized by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. The event was held as a picnic in Zhovten Sanatorium near Kyiv, where children participating in “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Wounded Childrenproject undergo a rehabilitation course. Together with children, Mrs. Djamić and other guests from among representatives of embassies, international and civic organizations, and public bodies participated in a burger cooking master class and made The Planet of Dream drawing.

“I am glad that, being appointed to Ukraine only recently, I was immediately invited to such a wonderful event. What makes today’s meeting valuable is that it gathered children victimized by war, so we have the chance to learn the stories of these children firsthand to remember that the armed conflict continues,” Anica Djamić added.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been consistently working on rehabilitation of wounded children since 2016. During these years, boys and girls living on both sides of the confrontation line underwent over 130 medical treatment and rehabilitation courses. This summer, another 22 kids became participants of “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Rehabilitation of Wounded Children” project.
