44 small Ukrainians hope for a healthy life thanks to the Rinat Akhmetov Headquarters

12.06.2018

Forty-four small Ukrainians had a chance for a long and healthy life. According to the project "Healthy Heart" of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Headquarters, they underwent endovascular operations to eliminate heart defects. Children feel well and stay at home with their parents rather than in gloomy hospital walls. Low-trauma and high efficiency of endovascular operations allowed children to recover quickly and return to full-fledged life.

The project of the Headquarters "Healthy Heart" was launched in February 2017 and is intended to save babies born with a diagnosis of "valvular heart disease". About 4,500 people with such diagnosis are born in Ukraine every year. Approximately half of the children can be helped to forget about the terrible diagnosis, by installing small appendage closure devices in the small hearts, which close the hole in the cardiac septum. It closes itself with healthy children, but some need help from a doctor.

One of those who received help on the project "Healthy Heart" of the Humanitarian Headquarters  is a one-year-old Solomiya from the Kharkov region. Her mother, Olga, has health problems, so she had to take pills during pregnancy. The doctors watched the mother and the baby, and after birth it became clear that the child had an open arterial duct. It was unaffordable for a single mother, who also constantly takes medicines, to set appendage closure device to her daughter. Then she turned for help to the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Headquarters.

The operation to install the appendage closure device for Solomiya in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after Amosov was successful. The mother is grateful for it to the Headquarters: "Thank you very much for saving my daughter! I will remember it all my life".

The Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian headquarters continues to help children with valvular heart disease. The children under 18 years old living in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkov and Zaporozhye regions can get help under the project "Healthy Heart". The project provides for heart surgery for children with diagnoses: open arterial duct, defect of interatrial and interventricular septum.
